PRESENTED BY: Douglas J. DeBoer, DVM, Dipl. ACVD

Dr. DeBoer is a graduate of the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of California-Davis, and completed postgraduate training at Michigan State University and at UC Davis. In 1986, he joined the faculty of the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he is currently Professor of Dermatology. His duties include teaching foundation principles of clinical dermatology to veterinary students, and his research and clinical interests center on the immunology of recurrent and chronic skin diseases, with a focus on canine allergic skin diseases and feline dermatophytosis. He is a diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology and received the ACVD Award of Excellence for Contributions to Science and Education in 2003. Dr. DeBoer has served on the scientific editorial boards of the American Journal of Veterinary Research and Veterinary Dermatology, and currently is chair of the International Committee on Allergic Diseases of Animals.

PRESENTED BY: Randy Schuett, DVM

Dr. Randy Schuett is the co-owner and founder of Pewaukee Veterinary Service. He received his undergraduate and DVM degree from Kansas State University and opened the hospital in 1975 with the vision to give the surrounding communities, his clients, and their pets the best veterinary health care available. A former president of the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association (WVMA) and member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), Dr. Randy has been active for many years in both associations in a variety of roles. He will share case studies on Apoquel, opportunities with continued inventory expansion, as well as give a sneak peek of other innovative therapies to come.

PRESENTED BY: Richard Goldstein, DVM, DACVIM(SAIM), DECVIM-CA and Richard Marconi, PhD

Dr. Richard Goldstein has been the Chief Medical Officer at The Animal Medical Center since September 2012 and served as its Chief of Medicine since November 2011. For the last 10 years, he has been a faculty member at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. A respected researcher, author, lecturer and teacher, he has published over 60 research papers and textbook chapters to date. He holds a dual board certification in Small Animal Internal Medicine by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine as well as the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Companion Animals.

Dr. Richard Marconi is a Professor in the School of Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Montana and conducted his post-doctoral training at The Roche Institute of Molecular Biology and the Rocky Mountain Laboratories (NIAID, NIH). Dr. Marconi has 25 years of experience in the study of pathogenic spirochetes. His current research interests are diverse and include the study of molecular mechanisms of pathogenesis of Lyme disease, tick borne relapsing fever and periodontal disease. Dr. Marconi is well recognized for his vaccine related research and has lectured worldwide. He has published over 85 papers, reviews and book chapters.

Mast cell tumors are the most common cancer diagnosed in the skin of dogs. The prognosis for dogs diagnosed with mast cell tumors can vary greatly with some dogs surgically cured and other's succumbing to metastatic disease within 6 months. Therefore, the recommended treatments also vary greatly. This presentation will guide you through determining the likely natural behavior of each patient's mast cell tumor. It is essential to prepare owners appropriately and to use the least aggressive approach to treating each dog's cancer. Dr. Custead is one of the newest members of the oncology group at WVRC. She is originally from Maryland and has had training in New Jersey, Washington D.C., and did her residency at Purdue University.
