Valarie Hajek Adams is a certified veterinary technician with 40 years in veterinary medicine working in large and small animal practice with the last 16 years in emergency/critical care specialty. Her graduation from the Medical Institute of Minnesota was among the first graduating classes in the field of veterinary technology. Valarie's pioneering career as a technician provided her with a breadth and depth of different experiences relating to the human animal bond that a natural development of passion with this focus emerged. She is the president of Healing Heart Foundation, Inc., a non-profit sponsoring partnerships and philosophies honoring the spirit of the Human Animal Bond, and the director of one of its programs, Healing Heart Pet Hospice.

Dr. Moore is a graduate of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. She was in private practice in both large animal and small animal medicine in New England and in Florida. She completed a research fellowship in comparative pathology at Harvard Medical School in Boston. She has been an assistant professor of pathology at Harvard Medical School and at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine. She was formerly director of the clinical laboratory at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. She is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in both anatomic and clinical pathology. Her professional interests are in diagnostic pathology, zoonotic diseases and laboratory quality control. She has been director of Marshfield Labs, Veterinary Services since 1991.

MVMA presents Feline
Asthma
This talk will
include an overview of the disease pathophysiology, history and physical
exam findings, and traditional diagnostic evaluation and therapy. Also
highlighted will be a discussion of how to perform bronchoalveolar lavage
and a brief review of new diagnostic and therapeutic modalities and current
research.

Dr. Venema is the staff internist at Milwaukee
Emergency Center for Animals and Specialty Services. She is originally from
South-Central Michigan and is a graduate of the Michigan State University
College of Veterinary Medicine. She completed a rotating internship in small
animal medicine and surgery at Purdue University. Following her internship,
she returned to Michigan State for a residency in small animal internal
medicine and is recognized by the American College of Veterinary Internal
Medicine as a board-certified small animal internist. Her sub- specialty is
respiratory medicine, particularly feline allergic airway disease.
